Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING "Every Creature Does What It Must To Survive" Author: Delia Owens Release date: August 14th, 2018 Number of pages: 368 I got given this book for free last year from people giving out a bunch of freebies in the university library, must have been for Re/Freshers or something along those lines. I hadn't heard of it before but I definitely was interested in giving it a go reading the blurb. It sounded like it was going to be a straightforward romance story interlinked with a murder mystery, but I definitely wasn't prepared for what followed:a hauntingly beautiful story about trauma, survival, secrets and how far someone can go to protect them. Plot details The Marsh Girl had been a rumour around town for years, but little was actually known about Kya. She stopped going to school when her family all left her alone with her abusive alcoholic father, and she is eventually left to fend for herself when her father leaves after receiving a letter from ...

The Perfect Couple by Jackie Kabler

THE PERFECT COUPLE "...Or The Perfect Lie?" Author: Jackie Kabler Release date: April 17th, 2020 Number of pages: 422 I saw this book while browsing a local book store, and the striking front cover is what drew me to it initially. The striking red symbolised the O'Connor's front door, but could it also be trying to point out something much darker going on behind the closed door? Blood, rage, romance...essentially I got the feeling the titled perfect couple weren't as they seem and that something was going to happen to them and we had to figure out what is going on, so count me in. Plot details Danny & Gemma O'Connor seem to be living the normal, happy life, having recently moved to their dream home in Bristol, England. All was well, until one night Gemma returns home and Danny is nowhere to be seen. No calls, no texts, no emails, nothing. Once she calls the police get involved, Gemma discovers something horrifying: there's a serial killer on the loos...

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

THE GUEST LIST "A Remote Island...An Invitation To Die For " Author: Lucy Foley Release date: February 20th, 2020 Number of pages: 384 The Guest List was a book I bought during lockdown 1.0 when we were all just looking for *something* to do after finishing every episode of Tiger King off in one sitting. I love books where there's a mystery going on and you get to read through the twists and turns while piecing together all the clues, and wondering which are the red herrings.  Plot details The book takes place over the course of just a few days, set on a small island near the coast of Ireland during the wedding of Will & Jules. There we meet our array of characters, each more unlikeable than the last. We have Will & Jules, the bride and groom (of course), Olivia, who is the bridesmaid and Jules' half sister, Johnno, Will's best man, Aoife, the couples wedding planner, and Hannah, who is a plus one invitee. The story is told via the perspective of all the c...
